Quran: Healing and Mercy

The Quran was revealed to the prophet (Peace be upon Him) as guidance to mankind. Allah said in surah Al-Baqara “This is the Book about which there is no doubt, guidance for those conscious of Allah” (Al-Baqara:2). Quran is healing and brings light to the heart of the believers, Allah says “And We send down of the Qur’aan that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism and act on it), and it increases the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers) nothing but loss”(Al-Israa:82). Ibn Kathir commented on this verse saying that “healing and mercy” means “that it takes away the diseases in the heart such as doubt, hypocrisy, shirk, deviation and misguidance; the Quran heals all of that. And it is also a mercy which brings about faith, wisdom and the pursuit of and desire for goodness. This is only for those who believe in it and follow it; for such it will be a healing and a mercy” (Tafsir Ibn Kathir). The Quran contains benefits and lessons that help every believer in this world and in the hereafter.  In the Quran there is stories of the Prophets and righteous people, there are stories of those who disobey their prophets and how Allah punished them and how they were humiliated. The Quran contains verses which show the miracles of Allah and His power in this great universe. It teaches all kind of rules that need to be followed, all kind of science including human embryo, the universe, the mountains ect…, and it talks about the life after and all the unseen world of paradise and fire.
The Muslim ummah is going through a lot of trials, hardship and tribulations, and the solution to that is to go back to the Quran to strengthen their faith. There are many surahs and verses in the Quran that every Muslim should turn back for solution and guidance but  Surah Yusuf  has many lessons and solutions to the problem that the Muslim face day to day. This is the surah that we can turn to when facing any calamities and this is the Surah where we can  find some relief and can alleviate any discomfort , which is why Allah revealed it to our Prophet (Pbuh) at the time of sadness and discomfort. Allah says in this surah “There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding. Never was the Qur'an a narration invented, but a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of all things and guidance and mercy for a people who believe” (Yusuf:111). Allah Almighty states that in the story there is lesson to learn, explanation of everything and guidance and mercy for those who understand. The Quran needs reflection and pondering so Muslim can extract lessons to learn from and find solution for issues of sadness, depression, fear, patient and all problems that affect one’s life. Allah says “[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.”(Saad: 29).
